How a 12 Volt Inverter Works

12 volt power inverter. How does a 12 volt inverter work?

Well it it really is a matter of basic electricity. You see most 12 volt applications are 12 volt DC or direct current. An inverter or at least a 12 volt DC to AC power inverter will turn the 12 Volts of DC power to 110 to 120 volts of AC or alternating Current Power.

The 12 volt dc to Ac inverter uses internal circuitry to converter the DC power to this AC power. It also increases the voltage to the standard 110 volts. This way the inverter can run household items like laptops, tools, microwaves and other items.

The way the inverter creates the AC power is based on its design. There are two main types of power inverter designs out there. Square wave or modified sine wave and true or pure Sine wave power inverters. One (The Square Wave Inverters) only mimic the Alternating currents sine wave. Their wave fools most devices into thinking it is the same type of power.

For the ones that it doesn't fool, you will need the other type of inverter (Pure Sine Wave Inverter). This one doesn't mimic, but actually replicates the power in your home. In fact sometimes your inverter power will be cleaner and more consistent than the power produced by your local power company.
